Couldn't Do My Job Without It - Little Complaints!

Likeliness to Recommend

10 /10

What differentiates Slack from other similar products?

Similar to Rippling, I feel like Slack has a young, "I know what's hot in the industry" feel to it. There's many options where you can customize your experience with the tool, and it makes everyday tasks like messaging coworkers and hopping on meetings a little more fun + manageable with all of its features

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

I just love the layout. It makes so much sense to me with how the channels are laid out. I work a remote job, so having a tool that allows me to effectively communicate with my team is key. In a remote workforce, it's easy to feel detached and to not know your coworkers enough. But, Slack's fun emojis, compatibility with the HeyTaco program, and its many gifs have made for some great laughs in the workplace and done a lot in fostering team unity

What do you dislike most about this product?

The notifications are almost never reliable. I've heard this from so many of my team members, but when I first downloaded Slack on my computer, I used to get notifications for every single message sent in a channel I'm in. Now, I'm lucky if I get a notification for a message sent directly to me. I've checked my settings multiple times, by myself and with other team members experiencing the same problem, with no luck. It means I just have to check Slack every five minutes, but still, I wish I could trust it a bit more. That, and the volume often glitches when hopping on a Huddle - it's about 50/50 on whether the audio works and is laggy

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

I would consider how much your team needs to communicate virtually on a day-to-day basis. If you're a remote company, I couldn't recommend it more. But, for a company in-office with cubicles, I feel like it's not as much of a necessity. But, even if I did work in-office, if I had to choose Slack over any other current messaging tool (Google Teams or Microsoft Teams), I would do it in a heartbeat. Slack is just more fun and easy to use!

Pros

  • Continually Improving Product
  • Performance Enhancing
  • Enables Productivity
  • Trustworthy
