Neo4j is an excellent choice for graphDB

What differentiates Neo4j Graph Database from other similar products?

Having worked with TigerGraph in the past, I can confidently say that Neo4j stands out when it comes to ease of integration and implementation. The Cypher query language is intuitive and makes working with graph data feel natural, which is something I truly appreciated coming from other platforms. If you're just getting started with LPG graphs or looking to explore a wide range of use cases — whether it's supply chain analytics, banking, recommendation engines, or even GraphRAG — Neo4j is honestly one of the best choices out there. I would highly recommend it.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

What really impresses me is how versatile Neo4j is. It doesn't just cater to one specific domain; it offers a broad set of capabilities and offerings that can adapt to a variety of real-world use cases, making it a go-to solution for teams looking to get the most out of graph technology.

What do you dislike most about this product?

What I don't like about neo4j is, it lacks in RDF processing and integration. While they do offer the neosemantics plugin as a workaround, it's frustratingly not available on Aura DB, and even where it is accessible, the functionality feels quite limited.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Anyone who is started out in GraphDB space specially in LPG neo4j should be your first preference. With the ease of integration, rapid traversal speed, intuitive query language neo4j ticks most of the boxes.

Neo4j : Where Cypher makes semantics executable .

What differentiates Neo4j Graph Database from other similar products?

I think Neo4j graph db differs from other similar products due to it's query planner intelligence for graph patterns. If a normal non-tech person sees the product he may think it's a GraphDB , so that's why traversal is fast . But the hidden moth is that it just doesn't execute traversal it even reorders pattern matches , optimizes join cardinality in graph space to a good extent and even chooses optimal expansion direction . This helps massively in my own work where we collaborate for drug discovery using Knowledge Graph on neo4j .

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

My favourite aspect of the product is it's graph query language called Cypher . It has made our work quite easy to do as earlier we needed to write joins in case of SQL or a traversal code like Gremlin which was quite a headache now we sort of just describe the graph patterns . It has made having a look at node degree , path length and neighbours quite easy earlier we used to write complex python pipelines for such sort of work . I work a lot towards using it in biology stuff so it has helped me encode biological constraints symbolically which in turn helps in extracting graph features when training a GNN .

What do you dislike most about this product?

It lacks sort of lacks being semantic in nature in terms of property graph . What , I mean to say it feels slightly semantic shallow as it lacks native reasoning , ontology-based reference and standard triple store semantics . In my domain of work which is drug discovery formal ontologies matter a lot whether it be gene ontology or disease ontology and neo4j requires a bit of extra work to mimic that sort of work. So , we can say it is sort of more pragmatic in nature than being semantically rigorous .

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

The most essential thing , I would recommend to someone considering using neo4j is that design your ontology in depth first of all and then model it in neo4j . This way you would be able to define the semantic intent which helps a lot in making sense of it when you translate it into graph structures . Many times inconsistent modeling can make your work haywire as suddenly you would see too many labels and when you start analyzing them you would come to conclusion that even the relationships are quite weak and a lot of unclear property semantics floating around .
