I am not sure I have a favorite aspect, I appreciate most aspects of the product, nearly every aspect is as important as the other.

It's a fantastic product and easy to use as well. Give it a go.

What differentiates Azure Cosmos DB from other similar products?

The Resource lies inside azure environment, so it smoothly connects with other Microsoft services like Azure cloud and external Microsoft applications like teams. Resource management can be done using Azure extension in vs code without even logging into UI.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Spinning up the instance is easy and enforcing schema is also simple. The cost to use this is also pretty generous and it also comes with free tier to try out. The latency for reads and writes is faster compared to other document DB's.

What do you dislike most about this product?

The Schema once created is hard to change and users must be cautions to number of inputs or outputs extracted from each instance as the Json format is used here with fixed keys and not a tabular storage. Querying is a little hard too.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

If you are already using Microsoft products then Cosmos DB is a best choice for no SQL DB needs, there is a free tier available to test too so it is highly recommended.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

My favorite aspect of Azure Cosmos DB is its global distribution combined with predictable low-latency performance. The ability to replicate data across multiple Azure regions with just a few clicks—and still maintain single-digit millisecond response times—makes it incredibly powerful for building truly global applications. What stands out even more is the flexible consistency models. Instead of being forced to choose between just strong or eventual consistency, Cosmos DB offers five well-defined levels. This gives you fine-grained control to balance performance, cost, and accuracy based on your application’s needs.

What do you dislike most about this product?

The aspect I dislike most about Azure Cosmos DB is the complexity around cost management and partitioning. While the platform delivers excellent performance, the pricing model based on Request Units (RU/s) can be difficult to estimate accurately, especially for new workloads. Small design mistakes—like an inefficient partition key or uneven data distribution—can quickly lead to higher-than-expected costs. Another challenge is the limited visibility into partition-level insights. Although metrics are available, identifying hot partitions or workloads that consume disproportionate RUs often requires deeper diagnostics and external tools.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

My main recommendation for anyone considering Azure Cosmos DB is to spend time upfront on data modeling and choosing the right partition key. This single decision has the biggest impact on performance, scalability, and cost. A well-designed partition strategy ensures even data distribution, predictable RU consumption, and smooth scaling as workloads grow. I would also suggest beginning with serverless or autoscale if you’re unsure about throughput requirements.
